The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Muttaqha Rabe Darma as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The confirmation followed the ministerial nominee’s screening on Thursday at the plenary.
President Bola Tinubu transmitted Darma’s nomination to the Senate on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, as part of a cabinet reshuffle.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who read the communication from the President at plenary, had referred Darma’s nomination to the Committee of the Whole for further legislative action, with a directive to report back as soon as practicable.
During his screening, Darma outlined his plans to address the country’s housing deficit and improve urban renewal.
He also pledged to focus on rehabilitating abandoned housing projects and strictly enforcing urban planning regulations.
Darma, who holds two PhDs, previously served as the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Department Fund, PTDF.
He will now replace the former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, who was removed from the cabinet just days prior.
In the same legislative session, the Senate also confirmed Obehi Aire Okafor as the co-chairman of the Governing Council for the Unclaimed Funds Trust Fund.
