The Akwa Ibom State Government has released ₦123.5 billion for the execution of new and ongoing road infrastructure projects in a move to strengthen economic activity and regional connectivity in Nigeria’s oil-rich Niger Delta.
Governor Umo Bassey Eno approved the disbursement to contractors following the State Executive Council’s endorsement of key projects aimed at improving transport efficiency and supporting commercial growth.

The State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Aniekan Umanah, said the funds would cover mobilisation, right-of-way compensation, and outstanding interim payment certificates (IPCs), enabling contractors to accelerate work during the peak construction season.
According to the government, the projects span over 167 kilometres of roads, including the Ikwe–Odio Road and major dualisation https://www.huertanazari.com/blog/ works linking the Nnung Udoe, Afaha Offiong, Ikot Imoh, and Itreto communities. The reconstruction of the Ikot Akpaden–Okorete–Iko Road, featuring two mini bridges in Mkpat Enin and Eastern Obolo Local Government Areas, is also included.
A breakdown of the funding shows that ₦69 billion has been allocated to newly awarded projects, while ₦54.5 billion will service outstanding obligations and additional works on existing contracts.
The intervention is designed to ensure timely project delivery and enhance the state’s transport network, which plays a strategic role in facilitating the movement of goods and services within the Niger Delta.
The improved road infrastructure in Akwa Ibom shall enhance access to coastal and industrial corridors, supporting trade flows and boosting investor confidence in the region.
The development also aligns with the broader infrastructure drive under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises connectivity, economic diversification, and private sector-led growth.
By expanding its road network, Akwa Ibom is positioning itself to better integrate with national and regional markets, with potential spillover effects for commerce, logistics, and job creation across southern Nigeria.https://application.yayasanbankrakyat.com.my/
