Upsets took centre stage at the 6th Michael and Felicia Alabi Memorial Table Tennis Tournament, as defending women’s singles champion Hope Udoaka bowed out in the round of 16.

Udoaka, the 2025 champion, suffered a narrow 3–2 defeat (7–11, 11–7, 11–9, 5–11, 11–6) to unseeded Khadijat Okanlawon in a fiercely contested match.

According to reporters, the tournament is being held at the Idera Multi-Purpose Hall in Otan Ayegbaju, Osun State.

The competition is organised by the Osun State Table Tennis Association under the national federation, with support from the Michael and Felicia Alabi Foundation.

In another major upset, junior player Fumilayo Ojo stunned second seed Sukurat Aiyelabegan in straight sets (11–4, 11–4, 11–4), guaranteeing the emergence of a new women’s champion.

In the men’s category, defending champion Abdulbasit Abdulfatai of Kwara edged past David Fayele 3–2 in a tightly contested encounter, while Akanbi Rilwan progressed comfortably to the quarter-finals.

Over 200 players are competing across 14 events for a ₦5 million prize pool, with the finals set for Friday.
