Nigeria’s Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin has raised fresh alarm over the spread of bandit activities into Kano State North West Nigeria, urging security agencies to intensify operations to prevent further incursions into communities across the country.
Reacting to the latest attack in Yankamaye village of Tsanyawa Local Government Area, where a woman was killed and three people abducted on Saturday night, Senator Barau said the incident reflects a broader national challenge posed by criminal groups fleeing military pressure in neighbouring states.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Malam Ismail Mudashir, the Deputy Senate President said “the situation requires a stronger, coordinated national security strategy to prevent bandits from establishing new footholds in states previously considered secure.”
He said; “This attack, coming just days after another in Biresawa village, is deeply distressing.
“I call on our security agencies who have confronted these criminals in the region before—to double their efforts, take the fight to these elements and rescue the abducted persons. The incursions must stop.”
Senator Barau warned that the migration of bandits from heavily targeted regions into new areas is becoming a national pattern that demands urgent attention.
“We will not allow these criminals, who are fleeing from intensified military operations elsewhere, to destabilise peaceful communities. Protecting the lives and property of Nigerians remains paramount, and every necessary action must be taken to achieve this,” he said.
Senator Barau reaffirmed the commitment of the National Assembly to support the Nigerian Government and security institutions with the legislative tools required to strengthen internal security and curb the spread of banditry nationwide.
