Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Mexico, marking a significant milestone in the longstanding partnership between both nations.

In a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Ministry, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the relations established on April 14, 1974 have developed into a stable and mutually beneficial alliance built on mutual respect for sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and a shared commitment to international peace and development.

It stated that over the years, both countries have maintained cordial engagements at bilateral and multilateral levels, particularly within the United Nations system, where they have often aligned on key global issues.

Nigeria-Mexico cooperation has steadily expanded across several priority sectors, including trade and investment, energy, agriculture, education, culture, and technical exchange.

The statement further read that in recent times, both nations have intensified efforts to strengthen economic diplomacy by encouraging private sector participation, diversifying trade, and exploring new opportunities in emerging sectors such as renewable energy and industrial development.

The Nigerian government expressed satisfaction with the steady growth in bilateral engagement, noting the critical role of sustained diplomatic dialogue, institutional collaboration, and people-to-people exchanges in strengthening ties.

These interactions, it said, reflect the shared aspirations of both countries for inclusive growth, sustainable development, and enhanced South-South cooperation.

As both nations celebrate the golden jubilee of their diplomatic relations, the Ministry reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening ties through high-level engagements, stronger institutional frameworks, and strategic cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The Ministry also congratulated the governments and citizens of both countries on the historic milestone, expressing optimism that the next phase of the Nigeria–Mexico partnership will deliver even greater benefits for both nations.
