The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) have activated coordinated cyber security measures following concerns affecting elements of CAC’s digital infrastructure.

In a statement issued by NITDA’s Director of Corporate Communications and Media Relations, Hadiza Umar, both agencies confirmed the deployment of response and assurance mechanisms aligned with national cybersecurity frameworks. The move is aimed at safeguarding critical government systems and ensuring uninterrupted service delivery.

NITDA directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to urgently review and reinforce their cyber security architecture in line with the National Cyber security Policy and Strategy (NCPS) 2021. The agency emphasised the need for proactive measures to counter emerging threats targeting sensitive government data and platforms.

As part of the directive, MDAs are required to conduct comprehensive security assessments, address identified vulnerabilities, and strengthen access control systems. They are also expected to enhance data protection protocols, maintain reliable backup and disaster recovery systems, and improve monitoring capabilities to detect suspicious activities.

Additionally, MDAs must establish functional incident response frameworks, including prompt reporting of breaches to enable coordinated interventions. NITDA noted that detailed cybersecurity guidelines have already been distributed to support implementation across government institutions.

The initiative is part of broader efforts to improve the resilience of Nigeria’s public sector digital infrastructure and protect national digital assets. NITDA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting agencies in adopting global best practices and strengthening cyber security nationwide.
