The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has sought a partnership with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on security, economic cooperation and green city development.

The Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Nigeria, Yousef bin Mohammed Al-Balawi, made the proposal during a visit to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, in Abuja on Tuesday.

Al-Balawi commended Wike and the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as the development of a “beautiful green city”.

“I look forward to strengthening relationships with the FCT Administration and exchanging experience on developing a green city,” he stated.

The ambassador also stressed the need to deepen ties between the FCT and Riyadh, as well as other major cities in Saudi Arabia.

Responding, Wike acknowledged the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, noting that the FCT would leverage the partnership for its development.

“We will be happy and willing to visit Riyadh and other cities in Saudi Arabia to find areas of common interest and collaborate for mutual benefits

“Saudi Arabia is a very important state in the Gulf region with a very rich history and robust relationship with Nigeria

“We will want to capitalise on the good relationship with Nigeria to see how Riyadh and FCT will cooperate and learn from each other,” Wike explained.

The minister commended the ambassador for his remarks on the transformation of the FCT, attributing ongoing development to the political will of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“We have not gotten to where we want to be yet, but the Tinubu administration is committed and has what it takes to take the capital city to the global stage,” he affirmed.
