Multiple clubs from around Europe were interested but PSG won the race for his signature. Ramos will bring much needed steel into the heart of PSG’s defence as the Parisians had a poor campaign in the 2020/21 Ligue 1 season. Sancho will begin pre-season at Carrington, rather than back in Germany waiting for a transfer to be finalised. As soon as the Sancho deal was confirmed, talk around a move for Raphael Varane intensified.
Varane, 28, would be another significant statement of intent to compete with Manchester City for the Premier League title next season. The French defender established himself as one of the world’s best defenders since joining Real Madrid from French side Lens in the summer of 2011.
He has gone on to make over 350 appearances for the club, and has been capped 79 times by France, helping them to World Cup glory in 2018. Varane started all four of France matches at Euro 2020 tournament before they were knocked out Switzerland.
