The United States President Donald Trump has said Iran, NATO and the United Kingdom’s digital services tax will dominate his upcoming talks with King Charles III during the monarch’s visit to Washington next week.

Trump disclosed this in a phone interview with reporters, stating that he plans to address a broad range of issues during the meeting.

“We’ll be discussing a wide range of matters,” he noted, describing Charles as “a friend and a great guy.”

The four-day state visit, which begins on Monday, coincides with the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence from Britain.

Charles is scheduled to visit Virginia, New York and Washington, D.C., where he will meet privately with Trump and address the U.S. Congress.

The visit comes amid strained relations between the United States and the United Kingdom, described as the most tense since the Suez Crisis.

Tensions have been fuelled by Trump’s criticism of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer over his refusal to support military action against Iran, as well as remarks questioning Britain’s military strength.

Trump has also warned of possible tariffs on the UK if the British government does not abandon the digital services tax.
