Ethiopia and Mozambique have agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation following high‑level talks between Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Mozambican President Daniel Chapo that concluded with the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs).

The agreements are intended to strengthen collaboration across strategic sectors and mark a renewed phase in relations between the two countries.

Prime Minister Abiy described the talks as “fruitful,” saying they signalled the beginning of a long‑term partnership grounded in practical cooperation.

In a message shared on X, he said the MOUs would “shape and deepen our cooperation across strategic sectors” and reflected a shared commitment to turning “African potential into transformative reality.”

Although the specific sectors covered by the agreements were not detailed, both governments said the MOUs would provide a framework for expanding economic and diplomatic ties.

The Ethiopian government expressed optimism that the visit would produce concrete outcomes and lay the foundation for sustained collaboration.

President Chapo’s visit comes as African countries intensify efforts to strengthen intra‑continental cooperation in line with broader regional integration initiatives.

Ethiopia and Mozambique maintain cordial bilateral relations, with cooperation historically centred on political dialogue, multilateral coordination and exchanges in areas such as agriculture, education and public administration.

The latest agreements signal an intention to broaden this engagement into more structured, sector‑based partnerships.

Abiy said Ethiopia aimed to position itself as a partner offering sustained opportunities for growth and transformation.
