Botswana and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have agreed to strengthen cooperation across defence, security, mining and logistics following bilateral talks between their ministers in Gaborone on Monday.
Botswana’s Minister for State President, Defence and Security, Moeti Mohwasa hosted DRC Deputy Prime Minister and National Defence Minister Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita for discussions aimed at expanding collaboration between the two countries.
Mohwasa said the visit underscored the growing partnership between Botswana and the DRC, noting that both countries stand to benefit from closer coordination in key sectors.
He reaffirmed Botswana’s support for the DRC’s efforts to consolidate peace, strengthen state institutions and unlock the country’s economic potential.
Muadiamvita thanked Botswana for its longstanding support, particularly in regional peace and security initiatives.
He said Botswana had played an important role in the DRC’s recent stability efforts and noted the need for the two countries to establish direct bilateral mechanisms beyond their cooperation within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation.
The talks were attended by senior officials from both governments, including the DRC’s ambassador to Botswana, Patrick Matombo Kambibwa.
Botswana and the DRC maintain cordial bilateral relations rooted in their shared membership of SADC and cooperation on regional peace and security.
