Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has formally assumed leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, declaring an ambitious plan to deliver the state to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the party’s state congress held in Yola, Fintiri described the event as historic, marking the successful fusion of former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members with the APC to form what he called a “strong, united progressive party.”
The governor said the alignment process, though recent, had demonstrated a shared political vision and mutual need among stakeholders, leading to a seamless integration from ward to state level structures.
“We have advanced beyond alignment to fusion. We are now one strong, united progressive party in Adamawa State,” he declared.
Fintiri credited the success of the merger to political maturity, openness, and willingness among leaders to make concessions, noting that not all interests could be fully accommodated.
“Some of us might not have gotten what we wanted, but none of us is a loser. We are all winners,” he said.
He also acknowledged the role of key national figures in facilitating the process, including President Tinubu, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.
New Political Movement
In a major political move, Fintiri announced the formation of the Adamawa Renewed Hope 226 Movement (ARH226M), a grassroots mobilisation structure aimed at consolidating support across all 226 wards in the state.
He revealed that the movement would be chaired by the Deputy Governor, with membership drawn from top government officials, political appointees, and elected representatives at all levels.
According to him, the initiative is designed to drive an aggressive grassroots campaign ahead of 2027.
“This movement is a train with a grassroots base and an aggressive speed capable of carrying everyone and crushing any opposition,” Fintiri stated.
He directed all existing support groups within the APC and those loyal to President Tinubu to collapse into the new structure or risk political irrelevance.
Political Opportunism
The governor cautioned party members against opportunism and imposition, urging commitment to democratic ideals and internal fairness.
He emphasised that the newly elected party executives at ward, local government, and state levels must ensure inclusiveness, accountability, and a level playing field for all aspirants.
“Those who seek endorsement by imposition will give way to hardworking politicians under a fair system,” he warned.
Fintiri concluded by asserting that Adamawa is now firmly under APC control, with functional structures across all levels, positioning the party for electoral victories in future polls.
“We are not tenants; we are owners. And we are going all out to win,” he said.
The congress marks a significant shift in the political landscape of Adamawa State, setting the stage for heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 elections.
