Governor Abba Yusuf has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to using education as a strategic tool for development, declaring that investments in both foreign and local postgraduate scholarships are central to advancing the state’s “Kano First” agenda.
The governor made this known during a ceremony at the Government House, where 110 beneficiaries of foreign postgraduate scholarships were presented with certificates after completing their studies abroad.
According to a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, the scholars who studied at Sharda University in India, returned with expertise in fields including engineering, pharmacy, sciences, ICT, and advanced technology.
“Our goal is simple,” Governor Yusuf said. “We want the investment made in you to translate into real development for our state, in line with our ‘Kano First’ agenda.”

He described the occasion as a moment of pride for Kano, noting that the students had left the country with aspirations and returned equipped with knowledge and experience that should be applied to solve real-life challenges.

The governor emphasised that the value of education lies not just in certificates but in practical impact, urging the graduates to deploy their skills to improve systems and enhance the quality of life for citizens.
“This knowledge must not remain on paper. It must be used to solve problems and drive progress,” he stressed.
Governor Yusuf also assured the graduates of continued government support, including the creation of job opportunities that align with their expertise.
He commended parents and families for their role in supporting the scholars and reiterated his administration’s resolve to sustain the scholarship programme.
In separate remarks, a parent, Hajiya Zuwaira Sanusi, alongside two beneficiaries, Yusuf Muhammad and Hauwa Muhammad, expressed gratitude to the governor, describing the initiative as life-changing and a gateway to opportunities for students from less privileged backgrounds.
The returning scholars also presented the governor with a book titled “A Journey of Gratitude and Discovery,” written in his honour, along with an award recognising his contributions to educational development.
