The Federal Government of Nigeria Power Company (FGNPC) has reinforced its commitment to collaborative infrastructure delivery following strategic engagements with the governments of Ebonyi and Enugu States.

The Communications Lead of FGNPC, Magdalene Abang, who disclosed this in a statement, said the high-level meetings form part of ongoing efforts to accelerate Phase 1 of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), a flagship federal project designed to transform Nigeria’s electricity value chain and improve nationwide power reliability.

Leading the delegation was the Chief Commercial Officer of FGNPC, Babatunde Daramola-Oniru, who met with top state officials, including Secretaries to the State Governments and Commissioners.

According to Daramola-Oniru, the engagements were aimed at strengthening alignment, securing institutional support, and ensuring the smooth execution of critical transmission and distribution projects.

He said sustained stakeholder collaboration is essential to long-term infrastructure success, noting that early engagement fosters local ownership, minimizes risks, and guarantees that investments deliver lasting value to host communities.

“In Ebonyi State, discussions focused on key infrastructure such as the Ugwaji–Okposi 330kV double-circuit transmission line”

He explained that the project is expected to unlock stranded capacity, significantly enhance grid stability, and improve electricity supply to homes, businesses, and critical public institutions.

The Secretary to the State Government, Grace Umezurike, expressed strong support for the initiative, emphasising its importance to essential infrastructure, including the state’s international airport, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions.

She reaffirmed the state government’s readiness to eliminate bottlenecks and ensure timely delivery.

Smart City

Similarly, in Enugu State, South-East Nigeria, the PPI projects are seen as central to the state’s broader economic and urban development strategy.

The Secretary to the State Government, Chidiebere Onyia, highlighted the alignment between the initiative and the administration’s vision of transforming the state into a modern smart city.

He noted that a reliable power supply is critical to driving industrial growth, digital transformation, and attracting investment, adding that the state is fully committed to supporting FGNPC’s efforts.

According to him, the Presidential Power Initiative aims to boost Nigeria’s grid capacity by an additional 4,000 megawatts over the next three years.

He added that this will be achieved through strategic investments across the transmission and distribution segments, in collaboration with global energy leader Siemens Energy and reputable Engineering, Procurement, and Construction contractors such as China Machinery Engineering Corporation and Elsewedy Electric.

Beyond technical execution, FGN Power Company underscored the critical role of state governments in ensuring project success.

Key responsibilities include securing Right-of-Way for transmission infrastructure, addressing environmental and regulatory concerns, and providing adequate security to prevent vandalism at project sites.

These factors, the company noted, are vital to maintaining project timelines and safeguarding investments.

As Nigeria continues its push to modernise its power sector, partnerships between federal and state actors remain central to bridging the gap between policy formulation and implementation.

Through sustained collaboration and targeted investments, FGN Power Company is positioning the Presidential Power Initiative as a cornerstone for delivering reliable and sustainable electricity to millions of Nigerians.
