The Plateau State Government has arraigned four suspects connected to the unrest in Angwan Rukuba in Jos, North Central Nigeria, before the state’s High Court, marking a key development in the pursuit of justice.

The accused, who were arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), appeared before Justice Gidelia Fomyong and Justice Jacob Longden in Courts 12 and 9, respectively. Their arraignment has drawn significant public attention, particularly from grieving families and affected communities.

The Plateau State Government formally charged the suspects over their alleged involvement in the unrest, which occurred during a period of heightened tension and sparked widespread condemnation. The arrests were carried out between April 3 and April 10, 2026.

According to the State Attorney General, Philemon Daffi, the defendants’ actions violate Section 269 and are punishable under Section 270 of the Penal Code Law of Plateau State, 2017.

The charges allege that the suspects conspired on March 28, 2025, in Farin Gada, Jos North, to plan, organise, and fund unrest in Anguwan Rukuba. They are also accused of directly participating in acts of terrorism that led to the unrest and affected many people in the state.

With one additional suspect, Ado Ibrahim from Riyom Local Government Area, who remains at large, Justice Philemon adjourned the case to April 30, 2026.

As the trial progresses, many hope it will not only bring closure to victims but also act as a deterrent against future violence in Plateau State.
