The Youths in Edo State have commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for fostering an enabling environment that supported their participation in the Edo Carnival 2025, following the successful resolution of concerns over delayed prize payments.
The presentation of prizes, held on April 18, 2026, in Benin City, marked a turning point after earlier criticism trailed the event when some participants took to social media to complain about delays.
The eventual disbursement of rewards have since been widely welcomed, with many youths describing it as a demonstration of commitment to promoting creative talent and cultural initiatives.
At the ceremony, co-convener, Daniel Eromosele, clarified that the Edo State Government was not the organiser of the carnival but rather a supporter alongside other stakeholders.
He explained that Peak Rendezvous was responsible for the planning and execution of the event.
Eromosele noted that misconceptions about the organisational structure of the carnival contributed to the controversy and urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information.
He stated that beyond financial rewards, the carnival serves as a platform to promote Edo’s cultural heritage, foster unity, and create opportunities for young people to showcase their talents.
He also commended participants for their patience and resilience during the period of uncertainty.
Some beneficiaries said receiving their prizes went beyond monetary value, they noted that it restored their confidence in the initiative and reaffirmed the carnival’s role as a platform for growth and recognition.
With the issue now resolved, organisers say attention has shifted to future editions, with plans to deliver a more structured and expanded event.
The development is being viewed by many youths as a positive step toward sustaining the carnival and strengthening support for creative expression in Edo State.
