The Governors of Gombe and Adamawa States have strengthened regional cooperation as Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya hosted his Adamawa counterpart, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, for the commissioning of key infrastructure projects in Gombe State.
During the visit, Governor Fintiri inaugurated the 33-kilometre Ture–Sabon Layi Awak–Dogon Ruwa–Gelengu–Balanga Gari road, including a spur linking Bakasi, Balansani, and Dasan Buzu.
He also commissioned the Talasse–Degri–Bembelem road, with both projects aimed at improving connectivity and boosting economic activity in the area.

Governor Fintiri commended Governor Yahaya’s leadership, describing him as “focused, visionary, and God-fearing,” and praised his commitment to prioritising the welfare of the people.

“This is my first time in this part of the state despite its proximity to Adamawa, and I must say these are enduring projects that will stand the test of time,” he said.
The Adamawa State Governor proposed a cross-border road project linking Shelleng communities in Adamawa with Gombe through the Borgu–Dala Waja–Wala Lunguda corridor. The move expected to strengthen social ties and stimulate economic growth along the border.

Solar Power Revival After 15 Years
The Governors also commissioned a Model Almajiri (Tsangaya) School in Bakassi, designed to integrate traditional Islamic education with formal basic schooling.
At Talasse, they inspected an off-grid solar power facility set to restore electricity to communities that have been without power for over 15 years.
The project, implemented through a public-private partnership involving the World Bank, the Gombe State Government, and Balanga Local Government, is expected to generate one megawatt of electricity, enough to serve over 30 communities and about 6,000 households.
According to the contractor, “work on the facility is about 80 per cent complete, with solar panels largely installed and battery systems undergoing final safety checks.”
The plant will have a storage capacity of 2.6 megawatt-hours, ensuring a 24-hour power supply, with plans for future expansion to two megawatts.
Traditional Honour
The visit also featured a courtesy call on the Bala Waja, His Royal Highness Mohammed Danjuma Mohammed, who lauded both Governors for their inclusive governance and commitment to regional development.
In recognition of his efforts, Governor Fintiri was conferred with the traditional title of Bachama Waja, “Ambassador of the Waja Chiefdom.”
In their closing remarks, Governors Yahaya and Fintiri reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening partnerships in infrastructure development and economic integration for the long-term benefit of their states.
