Nigeria, SESRIC Seal Strategic Partnership for Women Empowerment

Nigeria has formalised a strategic partnership with the Statistical Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries.

The formalisation was sealed ahead of the International Policy and Practice Exchange on Child Protection in the Digital Environment holding in Ankara.

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, said the agreement marks a significant step in strengthening collaboration on women’s empowerment and inclusive socio-economic development across member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

The milestone was achieved alongside the Director General of SESRIC, Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk.

Speaking on the development, Minister Sulaiman-Ibrahim said: “This important milestone was achieved alongside my sister, H.E. Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk, Director General of SESRIC, as we deepen collaboration towards advancing women’s empowerment and inclusive socio-economic development across OIC Member States.”

She highlighted the strategic importance of SESRIC within the OIC framework.

“As a key institution of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, SESRIC plays a vital role in data, research, and capacity building, providing the evidence, insights, and skills that enable its 57 Member States to cooperate more effectively.”

On the significance of the Memorandum of Understanding, the Minister reaffirmed the shared vision of both parties.

“Through this MOU, we reaffirm our shared commitment to building stronger institutions, empowering women and communities, and fostering sustainable development through strategic partnerships and South–South cooperation.”

The partnership underscores growing international cooperation aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and advancing development outcomes across OIC member states.
