The Nigerian Navy has reinforced its reputation for operational effectiveness in internal security operations, recording significant successes against terrorists and violent extremist groups during coordinated missions under Operation FASAN YAMMA in the North-West region.

In a statement detailing recent operations, the Director Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, disclosed that its troops, working in synergy with other security agencies, carried out a series of well-coordinated offensives targeting violent extremist elements across key locations in the region.

Folorunsho said that “the operations led to the rescue of several victims held by the insurgents, while multiple violent extremist insurgents (VEIs) were neutralised during intense engagements”.

He noted that the missions were driven by credible intelligence and executed with precision, underscoring their commitment to safeguarding lives and restoring peace in affected communities.

According to him, on 18 April 2026, troops deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Ibira responded swiftly to distress calls on hearing gunshots along the Doka–Ibira axis.

Upon rapid mobilisation to the scene, troops made contact with VEIs who opened fire. A decisive counter-fire forced the attackers to retreat, leaving their victims behind. Five victims were rescued from the scene.

Four of them sustained different levels of gunshot wounds and were promptly taken to the General Hospital in Idon for treatment, while one victim sadly succumbed to injuries.

The victims’ vehicle was recovered successfully, and exploitation of the area to track the fleeing extremists.

In a related operation on 20 April 2026, troops of 2 National Mission Force Brigade, acting on credible intelligence, conducted a coordinated ambush at Anguwan Haske.

“The operation resulted in the neutralisation of one VEI and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle. Own troops recorded no casualties and returned safely to base,” he added.

Additionally, troops deployed at FOB Dokan Karji responded to a distress call from Kushere Village, where VEIs had abducted civilians.

The naval personnel swiftly mobilised and engaged the criminals in a gunfight, overpowering them and forcing their withdrawal. During the operation, three kidnapped victims were successfully rescued unharmed.

These operations underscore the Nigerian Navy’s unwavering contribution to Counter Terrorism and Counter Insurgency (CTCOIN) efforts aimed at combating terrorism and other forms of violent extremism threatening the peace and stability of the country.

The Nigerian Navy is committed to deploying assets to support national security objectives and to sustain aggressive operations against VEIs to ensure a safe and secure environment.

Members of the public are encouraged to continue providing credible information to security agencies to enhance ongoing operations across joint theatres nationwide.
