The Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mao Ohuabunwa, and the party’s National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, have called for unity, discipline, and strategic coordination among members.

The call comes after the party had successfully conducted it 2026 National Convention.

Speaking at the 87th meeting of the Board of Trustees (BoT) in Abuja on Monday, Ohuabunwa described the convention as a “defining moment” that reaffirmed the party’s resilience and capacity for self-renewal.

He said the exercise restored confidence within the party and sent a strong message to Nigerians that the PDP remains a formidable political force ready to play its role in the country’s democratic development.

“Against all odds, we came together as one family, deliberated, and made decisions that have repositioned our Party for the future,” he said.

The BoT Chairman, however, warned that the gains of the convention must not be eroded by post-event divisions, urging members to embrace reconciliation and inclusiveness across all levels.

“As the conscience of the Party, the Board of Trustees must ensure that unity is sustained and that no member feels alienated,” he stated.

Ohuabunwa emphasised the need for vigilance, discipline, and adherence to due process.

He noted that the successful convention marks the beginning of more critical work, including strengthening internal democracy and party structures.

The BoT Chairman also commended ongoing reforms such as e-registration and modernisation efforts, describing them as key to transparency, accountability, and future preparedness.

In his remarks, the PDP National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, stressed that unity remains the party’s greatest strength as it prepares for future political contests.

“Members of the Board of Trustees, distinguished elders, and leaders of our great party, we gather today at a defining moment. Our strength has always been our numbers, but our power lies in our unity,” he said.
