Alleged Mutiny Plot: DHQ Inaugurates Court Martial

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has inaugurated a General Court Martial to try 36 serving military personnel accused of alleged mutiny and plotting to overthrow the government.

The inauguration, held on April 24, 2026, is aimed at reinforcing discipline and safeguarding constitutional authority within the Armed Forces.

In a statement, the Director Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, described the move as a significant step towards strengthening accountability within the military.

“The inauguration marks a significant step in reinforcing discipline, accountability and the commitment of the Armed Forces to safeguard national integrity in constituted authority,” he emphasised.

He gave the assurance that the proceedings would follow due process.

“Proceedings of the court will be conducted with the highest standards of fairness, impartiality and strict adherence to due process, guaranteeing that justice will be served without fear or favour,” the Director stated.

Uba added that all cases would be handled within existing legal frameworks.

“All cases will be addressed within extant legal frameworks of the military justice system,” he clarified.

The DHQ reiterated its commitment to professionalism, discipline and the rule of law, while ensuring that the rights of all personnel are respected and the principles of fair hearing upheld.
