APGA Releases Primary Election Timetable

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has unveiled its provisional timetable and schedule of activities for the 2026 primary elections as preparations gather pace for the 2027 general elections.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ejimofor Opara, who said the decision followed due process and regulatory compliance.

“The National Working Committee of APGA, in compliance with the revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election issued on February 26, 2026, and pursuant to its powers under the APGA Constitution 2019 and the Electoral Act 2026, has approved and released the provisional timetable and schedule of activities for the 2026 primary elections,” Opara said.

He stated that the move was aimed at ensuring the smooth nomination of candidates for the forthcoming polls.

According to the timetable, all primary elections will be conducted on May 23, 2026, at the ward level in the constituencies of aspirants using the Option A4 voting method.

Appeals arising from the primaries are scheduled to be resolved by May 28.

Opara further stated: “Purchase and return of expression of interest forms will take place between April 20 and May 8, while screening of prospective National Assembly aspirants is scheduled for May 11, State House of Assembly aspirants for May 12, and governorship aspirants for May 13.”

The party also outlined the cost of expression of interest forms as follows: ₦25 million for presidential aspirants, ₦10 million for governorship, ₦6 million for Senate, ₦4 million for House of Representatives, and ₦2 million for State House of Assembly candidates.

APGA said the timetable aligns with the framework set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as political parties begin internal processes ahead of the 2027 general election.
