The Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa says the state is leading the South-West in the Nigerian Government’s N62 billion Household Prosperity Programme, with 396,671 beneficiary households recorded across three tranches.
Governor Aiyedatiwa said this while receiving the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, on a courtesy visit to Akure, the state capital.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for the initiative under the Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as a ‘major intervention’ aimed at supporting vulnerable households nationwide.
The Governor emphasised the need for stronger synergy between the Nigerian and state governments to ensure effective implementation of social intervention programmes. He noted that selected beneficiaries across the 18 local government areas are being engaged to provide feedback on the programme’s impact.

Governor Aiyedatiwa also highlighted challenges related to National Identification Number (NIN) registration and directed relevant officials to intensify efforts to update beneficiaries’ data for seamless payments.

In his remarks, Doro said Ondo State had received about N9.9 billion through successive payment cycles and that over nine million households have benefited nationwide, each receiving N75,000 in three tranches.
The Minister, however, expressed concern over low public awareness of the programme and stressed the need for improved communication and transparency.
He stated that the Nigerian Government is reviewing the social protection framework to enhance accountability, improve targeting and ensure future interventions reflect the needs of citizens.
