The Commander of the 23 Brigade, Brigadier General Amechi Agwu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the welfare of corps members and residents of Gibson Jalo Cantonment in Yola, Adamawa State.
Brigadier General Agwu who is also the Acting Commander, Sector 4 of Operation Hadin Kai, made the pledge during the commissioning of a newly renovated corps members’ lodge within the cantonment.
He described the project as part of ongoing efforts to improve living conditions and boost morale among young graduates serving in the barracks.
Agwu explained that the renovation aligns with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, which focuses on transforming the Nigerian Army into a more professional, adaptable, combat-ready, and resilient force capable of effectively carrying out its constitutional responsibilities in a joint and multi-agency environment.
According to the commander, providing conducive accommodation for corps members will enhance their productivity, particularly in the area of education, as many of them teach children of military personnel in schools within the barracks.
He urged the beneficiaries to take proper care of the facility, while assuring that more people-oriented projects would be executed to improve the welfare of personnel and residents of the cantonment.
Agwu also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff for continued support to Sector 4 and the 23 Brigade, noting that such backing has significantly boosted the morale and fighting spirit of troops engaged in operations.
In his remarks, the Corps Liaison Officer, Mr Nansel Vangvang, commended the commander for prioritising the welfare of corps members, describing the project as more than just a renovation but a demonstration of care, compassion, and dignity.
The lodge, which comprises 20 rooms, was rebuilt after it was destroyed by a whirlwind in 2025, forcing corps members to vacate the facility.
The renovation is expected to provide a safer and more comfortable living environment for corps members serving within the cantonment and contribute positively to their service year experience.
