Nigeria, Tunisia Strengthen Family Policy Cooperation Talks

The Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has held a productive bilateral meeting with the Minister of Family, Women, Children, and Seniors of Tunisia, Asma Jabri, focusing on strengthening family systems as a foundation for societal development.

Discussions at the meeting held on the sidelines of the International Policy and Practice Exchange on Child Protection in the Digital Environment in Ankara, Türkiye,  centered on the critical role of the family unit in addressing social challenges.

Ministers Sulaiman-Ibrahim and Jabri stressed the need to work closely with families while also engaging television and media organisations to promote positive values and awareness.

During the engagement, it was emphasised that “parents cannot effectively guide what they do not understand”, highlighting the importance of equipping parents with the knowledge and tools required to make informed decisions in raising their children.

The Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to closer collaboration, agreeing on the need to jointly address shared challenges affecting families in both countries. They also expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue.

Looking ahead, both sides conveyed their willingness to deepen ties through reciprocal visits aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.

To formalise the partnership, the Minister proposed the development and signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance cooperation in key areas of mutual interest.
