Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has been conferred the 2026 Image Maker Award.
The award was presented by Vanguard Media Limited, publishers of Vanguard Newspaper, in Lagos, South West Nigeria.
Responding to the honour bestowed on him, Idris described the recognition as a reflection of ongoing efforts to strengthen trust between the government and citizens, particularly amid significant national reforms.
“This award is a testament to the trust we strive to build with every Nigerian. Communication is at the heart of governance, and it must foster confidence, unity, and hope,” he emphasised.
The Minister who reaffirmed the Nigerian Government’s commitment to transparent and effective communication stressed that communication must go beyond information dissemination to actively build credibility and public confidence in governance.

“Communication must not only inform but also build trust,” he reiterated.
Idris highlighted the importance of transparency and sustained engagement with both the media and the public, noting that open communication channels had helped bridge perception gaps regarding government policies and actions.
He explained that the timely and accurate dissemination of information remained critical, particularly on matters relating to national security, adding that the ministry continued to collaborate closely with security agencies and media organisations to ensure responsible reporting while maintaining public calm.
“As we navigate major policy shifts, including the removal of fuel subsidies, foreign exchange reforms, and fiscal restructuring, our approach has centred on clarity, consistency, and credibility. We are committed to ensuring that government decisions are communicated with empathy and responsibility, always highlighting their long-term benefits for all Nigerians,” Idris stated.
The Information Minister also commended the Vanguard Media Limited for its commitment to journalistic excellence and for recognising individuals contributing to national development. He acknowledged the support of colleagues in government, media professionals, and ministry staff in advancing Nigeria’s communication framework.
Reaffirming his dedication to service, Idris described the award as both an honour and a responsibility.
“This honour is not an endpoint, but a call to do more for the Nigerian people,” he affirmed.
The event attracted several high-profile dignitaries, including Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, Minister of Interior Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Women Affairs Imaan Suleiman Ibrahim, and the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah, among others.
