Voting in Kano state has been faced with the twin challenges of mobility of Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, staff and technical problem of thumb printing with the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System, BVAS.
In Tunfafi Cikun Gari 2 polling unit 024, of Dawanki Tofa local government, VON observed that the INEC adhoc staff ,the accreditation officers faced technical glitches in using the BVAS machine to identify voters by their thumbprints, thereby resulting to the engagement of pictorial feature of the BVAS to eventually accredit voters.
Also in Ganduje ward Cikin Gari polling unit, of Dawanki Tofa local government, Governor Ganduje in his observation confirmed that it took some unusual time before voters were accredited due to the non-functionality of the BVAS machine.
” It takes time before you are been accredited because the instrument did not function for some time i observe that the machine is not picking quickly”
The lead INEC official in Ganduje ward identified internet network issues and the non-functionality of the thumbprint feature of the bimodal system in the polling unit as a major setback.
Speaking on the challenge of mobility, he said that mobility of INEC ad-hoc staff to their designated polling units in some remote areas of Dawanki Tofa L.G was also a challenge following the fact that most of the officers were not familiar with the area.
Meanwhile, Abba Umar Ganduje, son of Kano State Governor and the All Progressives Congress Candidate for the House of Representative Dawanki Tofa/Tofa/Tofa Rimi Gado federal constituency, differed in his position on the verification machine, he adjudged the system as being efficient.
A large turnout of voters was seen across Fagge local government area of the State, with calmness and complete sanity at the polling units.
Also, at the Wailari Makoda L.G .A, a huge number of women were seen in the queue eager to cast their votes.
Specifically in Fagge women center, the presence of women was seen to outnumber the male gender.
A good number of elites equally trooped to GidanDan Hausa building to perform their Civic right amidst calmness and tight security.
