Emir Intensifies Efforts to End Farmer-Herder Conflicts

Nura Mohammed, Minna

The Emir of Minna, Umaru Farouq Bahago, has intensified efforts to end the long-standing conflict between farmers and herders by convening a high-level peace meeting with Fulani Leaders from the five local government areas under the Minna Emirate.

The meeting, which lasted more than three hours, brought together traditional rulers and Fulani leaders to discuss practical solutions aimed at strengthening peace, promoting mutual understanding and preventing future clashes across the emirate.

Addressing the gathering, the Emir commended the Fulani Leaders and district heads for the roles they have been playing in maintaining peace in their various communities, and urged both farmers and herders to continue respecting one another, obeying the law and embracing peaceful coexistence.

Alhaji Umaru Farouq Bahago said the Minna Emirate has made the restoration of peace between farmers and herders one of its top priorities, stressing that his administration is determined to end the age-long crisis through dialogue, cooperation and mutual respect.

He expressed optimism that, with the commitment of traditional leaders, Fulani leaders, security agencies and community members, the conflict would soon become a thing of the past.

Earlier, the Wakilin Fulani of the Minna Emirate, Alhaji Hassan Shiroro, praised the Emir for his unwavering commitment to peace, describing the meeting as another major step towards finding a lasting solution to the conflict.

He said the Fulani leadership across the emirate fully supports the Emir’s peace initiative and remains committed to implementing all resolutions reached during the meeting.

According to Alhaji Hassan Shiroro, the Ardos (Leaders) have resolved to work closely with traditional rulers and security agencies by reporting suspicious activities, noting that many attacks blamed on herders are carried out by criminal elements who infiltrate communities.

He assured the Emir that Fulani leaders would continue educating their people on the need to respect farming communities, protect farmlands and live peacefully with their neighbours.

Former National President of MACBAN and Ardon Bosso, Alhaji Hussaini Bosso, commended the Emir and the Wakilin Fulani for convening the meeting, describing the dialogue as a timely step towards strengthening trust, cooperation and peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders.
