Former member of the House of Representatives and President of GLOBE Legislators, Rt Hon. Sam Onuigbo, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to global climate action, calling for stronger international collaboration and increased investment in sustainable development during two high-profile engagements at the London Climate Action Week.
Onuigbo was a panellist at the State of Climate Politics Forum, organised by E3G at the Mansion House, where he joined global policymakers, climate experts and investment leaders to discuss the theme, “Reframing Climate Action in the Face of Divided Politics”.
Onuigbo highlighted the enactment of the Climate Change Act 2021, describing it as a landmark legislation that has strengthened climate governance and provided a solid legal framework for the country’s transition to a low-carbon economy.

He noted that despite growing geopolitical tensions and increasing pressure on multilateral institutions, countries must remain committed to dialogue, cooperation and practical climate solutions capable of delivering sustainable economic growth.
Earlier, Onuigbo also participated in the Nigeria Climate Investment Summit, one of the flagship events of the London Climate Action Week, jointly convened by GLOBE Legislators and SOStainability to mobilise climate finance and unlock green investment opportunities in Nigeria.
The summit brought together policymakers, investors, development partners and climate leaders from across the world to explore pathways for financing Nigeria’s clean energy transition and sustainable development agenda.

Speaking after the summit, Onuigbo described the event as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s climate journey, saying it would pave the way for stronger partnerships, increased innovation and new opportunities for businesses operating within the green economy.
According to him, “The summit showcased Nigeria’s expanding climate investment landscape and highlighted ongoing efforts by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to attract green capital, strengthen climate resilience and accelerate sustainable economic growth.”
He also commended Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for announcing plans to host a Lagos Climate Action Week in partnership with GLOBE Legislators, SOStainability and the organisers of the London Climate Action Week.
He further stressed that the initiative will deepen climate dialogue, expand investment opportunities and reinforce Africa’s role in driving global climate solutions.
“The momentum generated here demonstrates that Nigeria is ready to play a leading role in climate action, green investment and sustainable development. What is required now is sustained collaboration among governments, the private sector and development partners to translate commitments into measurable impact,” Onuigbo said.
The twin engagements further underscore Nigeria’s growing influence in global climate diplomacy and its determination to position itself as a leading destination for climate finance and green investment in Africa.
