Lawmaker Praises Lagos-Calabar Highway Project, Cites Economic Benefits

The Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Onyekachi Peter Nwebonyi has commended the pace and quality of work on the ongoing Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and its connecting legacy road projects.

Nwebonyi described the infrastructure as a major step by President Bola Tinubu towards improving connectivity and economic development in the Southeast.

Senator Nwebonyi made the remarks after inspecting sections of the Lagos-Calabar-Ebonyi-Benue-Abuja Super Highway that passes through Mbeke Ishieke Community in Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

He expressed satisfaction with the progress of the earthworks, noting that “the road project would enhance transportation, stimulate economic activities and improve access between communities and major commercial centres.”

According to the Senator, “the infrastructure reflects the Nigerian Government’s commitment to expanding the nation’s road network and promoting regional development.”

I am satisfied with the pace and quality of the ongoing earthworks on the road project. This infrastructure will improve connectivity and create new opportunities for economic growth in the Southeast and beyond,” Nwebonyi said.

The President-General of Mbeke Autonomous Community, Mr. Sunday Ogboso, also welcomed the project, describing it as a long-awaited development that would improve the livelihoods of residents.

He said “the road would open up the community to increased trade, investment and easier movement of people and goods by linking the area to major cities across the country.”

Ogboso commended the Nigerian Government for executing the project and expressed optimism that it would contribute to the socio-economic development of the community and the wider region.
