The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged parents and guardians to ensure babies and young children are properly secured in the back seats of vehicles as part of efforts to reduce preventable road crash deaths and injuries.
The call was made during a road safety sensitisation programme organised by the FRSC in Eziowelle, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
In a statement issued by the Sector Public Education Officer of the FRSC Anambra State Command, SRC Margaret Onabe, the State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, emphasised the importance of using appropriate child restraints and adhering to safe passenger practices.
She noted that “placing children in the back seat and ensuring they are properly restrained significantly reduces the risk of severe injury or death in the event of a road crash.”
Public Awareness
The FRSC said sustained public awareness and compliance with child passenger safety measures remain essential to improving road safety outcomes and protecting vulnerable road users across the country.
Speaking on the theme, “Getting to Your Destination Safely is in Your Hands,” Asekhauno told the paticipants that road traffic crashes are largely caused by human error rather than supernatural forces.

She cautioned motorists against using mobile phones while driving, overloading vehicles and failing to properly secure children, stressing that strict adherence to traffic laws, road signs and road markings is essential to preventing crashes and saving lives.
The Sector Commander also urged members of the public to promote road safety awareness within their communities, describing every road user as a stakeholder in preventing traffic accidents.

The outreach featured the distribution of road safety flyers and interactive sessions with participants as part of the FRSC’s public enlightenment campaign.
The General Overseer of Jesus is Alive Church, Archbishop Dr. Onyekachukwu Nzekwesi, commended the FRSC for taking its safety campaign to the grassroots and urged the people to comply with traffic regulations and embrace responsible road use.
He also prayed for the protection of FRSC personnel as they continue to discharge their responsibilities.
The FRSC reaffirmed its commitment to expanding public education campaigns through churches, schools, markets and other community platforms to strengthen road safety awareness and reduce traffic crashes across Nigeria.
