A Nigerian Legislator Abdulmumin Jibrin says the unity and progress of Nigeria must be sustained for the good of the country and its citizens.

He made the remark in an interview with State House Correspondents, after he had a closed door meeting with President Bola Tinubu.

He said: “The most important thing is the stability and unity of the country.”

Commenting on insinuations in some quarters that the Northern part of the country has been neglected by the current administration, the lawmaker said President Tinubu is doing his best for the country, although people may have different perceptions about his style of governance.

“Every leader does his best and it depends on how you want to rate him. You can decide to see the cup half full or you look at it half empty. You can decide to assess someone and say you have done well but there is still much to be done.

“There are so many ways that you can do an assessment but I believe that everyone is entitled to his opinion and it can always contribute to deepening the discourse,” he added.

On whether he was in the State House as part of plans to defect from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the governing All Progressives Congress (APC,) Jibrin said his visit to the seat of power had nothing to do with that ‘but at the right time, things will unravel themselves.’

The villa is the residence of our president and leader of the country and everybody knows my relationship with him and the long term friendship that the President has enjoyed with the national leader of the NNPP. Rabiu Kwankwaso.

“So, I do not think it is anything surprising to see me walk in here to see the President to greet him and check on him. And also discuss some national issues that I believe are in the interest of the people of this country,” he said.
