Organised Labour calls for collaborative approach to Security challenge

The Organised labourĀ has called for anĀ all inclusive bi-partisan community approach to eradicate violence and crime in the country.

 

Speaking at a mass sensitisation and interactive session in Lagos, the Vice President of Industrial Global union, Comrade Issa Aremu observed that the current discordant and divergent views among some state governors on how to put an end to violence and crime were ā€œunhealthy and unhelpfulā€ for curtailing crimes.

 

Comrade Aremu advised governors to harmonise their strategies on crime controls.

 

He observed that ā€œIf elected state governorsĀ operate separately, certainly forces of banditry would defeat themĀ collectively.ā€

 

Comrade Aremu commended the Inspector General of PoliceĀ  Mohammadu Adamu for what he called hisĀ ā€œpassion in implementing Community policing which he said was the way out of the current challenges of insecurity.Ā ā€œ

 

Community policing
According to him,Ā  community policingĀ  is a ā€œpractical way ofĀ  democratising policingā€ because it involves all stakeholders that include local governments, churches and mosques, workforce in formal and informal sectors in organized unions, youths and women organisations.Ā 

 

The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu Zone 2 who represented the Inspector General observed thatĀ the concept of community policing in the 21st century ā€œis the policing with the community adding that ā€œsecurity is every citizen business.ā€

 

He said the objective of the Mass Sensitisation was to promote knowledge and understanding among the newly recruited constabularies and the communities on the imperative of Community Policing.

 

The program which was held at the Banquet Hall at Alausa Ikeja Lagos was declared open by the state Governor,Ā  Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and was attended by participants from South West states of Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ondo and Lagos state.
