Violence: Gombe State declares 24-hour curfew

The Gombe State Government has declared a 24-hour curfew in Billiri, Billliri Local Government Area of the state after violence erupted during a peaceful protest carried out by the people of Tangale Chiefdom

Reading the statement to journalists in Gombe, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, said the measure became necessary following the incident

Professor Njodi stated that the curfew would take effect from 6:00 pm on Friday, 19 February 2021.

He said for the peaceful co-existence to be attained among the citizenry, the government was committed to the protection of lives and properties.

According to the SSG, the government is suspending all forms of gatherings in the Billiri Local Government Area.

Consequently, he said all security agencies had been directed to ensure strict compliance with the directive, expecting all citizens to comply with the directive, except personnel providing essential services.

Meanwhile, Professor Njodi said the selection process for the replacement of the late monarch, his Royal Highness Abdu Buba Maisharu II, the 15th Mai Tangle was still ongoing because wider consultations were being made.
