Arrangements have reached an advanced stage for the launch of the Construction and Fabrication Academy of West Africa, a skills acquisition centre for youths in Calabar, Cross River State capital, south-south Nigeria.

A statement signed by Eugene Upah, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications to Governor Ben Ayade indicated that the academy was established “in line with the governor’s vision to equip the teeming youthful population of Cross River with skills.”

Upah stated that Signor Omang Idiege, the Commissioner for Youths Development and Skills Acquisition, undertook an inspection of facilities because of the upcoming commissioning on March 2nd, 2021.

Renovations

The statement further indicated that the academy, which was destroyed by vandals last October, has undergone a series of renovations preparatory to the launch.

“The Commissioner said that Governor Ayade ordered the reconstruction of the academy to ensure that was opened for training in the first quarter of 2021 to engage trainees.

“The fabrication academy has a number of courses that would kick off on March 2nd. The Governor is very optimistic about seeing the youths gainfully employed. We were billed for opening earlier on but the EndSARS destructions of last year set us back. We had to ensure that the missing items were replaced.” The statement read.

The statement quoted the Commissioner as saying, “some of the courses to be commissioned during the opening include Masonry, Aluminum and Glazing, Welding and Fabrication, Plumbing Technology, Fashion and Design and Information and Communication Technology, ICT.”

Other courses it indicated are Literacy, Electrical Installation and Air Conditioning, Tiling, Carpentry, Refrigeration Technology as well as Painting and Screeding.

It added that more than two thousand young people would be expected to enrol for training at the academy after its official opening next month.
