Manchester City Puts Four Past Chelsea In FA Cup

Manchester City put four goals past Chelsea in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday, claiming a 4-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium, while beating Chelsea for the second time in four days.

The home side featured World Cup winner Julian Alvarez in attack, with Algerian Riyad Mahrez and Cole Palmer supporting on the flanks. Chelsea started with Kai Havertz up-front, while Hakim Ziyech of Morocco and Mason Mount were on the wings.

Manchester City winger Mahrez fired in a brilliant free-kick to give his side the lead to the roar of the fans at the Etihad Stadium and to the delight of coach Pep Guardiola.

City were awarded a penalty and Alvarez stepped up and scored from the spot to extend the lead in the 30th minute. The home side weren’t finished with the scoring and Phil Foden added another eight (8) minutes later to make the scores 3-0.

Mahrez then added a second of the day and City’s fourth after scoring from the penalty spot late on to further showcase the gulf between both sides, piling more pressure on Chelsea manager Graham Potter.

The Algerian’s Man-of-the-Match performance ensured a 4-0 victory for Manchester City.

Manchester City could face Arsenal in the next round of the FA Cup if the Premier League leaders beat Oxford United on Monday. For, Chelsea, it is another defeat for manager Graham Potter.

Chelsea next face Fulham in the Premier League on Thursday, while Manchester City’s next game is at Southampton in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday.
