The Anambra State government has concluded plans for its hospital to begin a sickle cell clinic.
The Clinic will solely carter to those living with Sickle Cell Anaemia.
The Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, Anambra state, Dr Joe Akabuike made this known when a Non-governmental organisation that cares for children living with sickle cell anaemia paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
Mrs Chinwe Nnagbo led the children with Sickle Cell Anaemia on the visit.
Mrs Nnagbo said that the visit was to familiarise Dr Akabuike with their intention for the Children to come to the hospital on the first Monday of every month for their medical check-ups.
She said that “the foundation aims to put smiles on the faces of children with sickle cell and encourage them by providing some of their routine drugs like astymin, parodying, folic acid, vitamin E among others.”
Mrs Nnagbo pleaded with the CMD to consider the commencement of sickle cell clinic as it would go a long way to ease their burden.
Responding, Dr Akabuike extolled her for the passion, doggedness and antecedents towards the challenged children.
He equally promised that the management of the hospital would support them by commencing a sickle cell clinic in the hospital.
This he said would help to ameliorate their pains and called, even as he called the people to support children living with sickle cell anaemia in Anambra State.
