The National Agency for Science and Engineering infrastructure NASENI has concluded plans to establish the industrial equipment, machinery development institute and research skill development centre in Borno State.
The Executive Vice Chairman of NASENI Professor Mohammad Haruna disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum at the chamber council of the government house in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Professor Haruna said, “President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the location and establishment of the Industrial equipment and machinery development institute IEMDI. The industrial development and machinery institute to be established in Borno. It is a good message for you as a result of your excellent performance”.
“Number two the president has also approved the location and establishment of the research skill development centre in Borno State at a location to be selected by you, your Excellency”.
Professor Haruna further explained that the development institutes are saddled with the responsibility of conducting research, and designing and manufacturing tools, machines and equipment.
“The institutes will fast track the establishment of cottage industries, expansion of existing ones and produce spare parts of all equipment that will ensure industrialization not only in Borno State but of North East Nigeria”.
Governor Zulum thanked the NASENI delegation for the august visit. The governor expressed delight with the news of the choice of Borno State for the location and establishment of the Industrial equipment, machinery development institute IEMDI and the research skill development centre.
He promised to support NASENI for the speedy take-off of the new development institutes in the State.
“The government of Borno State under my distinguish leadership will give the needed support for the establishment of the Industrial equipment and machinery development institute IEMDI as well as for the development of the establishment of research skill development centre”.
“Unemployment has one way or the other contributed to the insurgency in the State. Therefore, one of the root causes of insurgency is unemployment. Establishing these two organisations in Borno State will address some of the root causes of insurgency which are not limited to poverty increase, infrastructural deficit and increasing climate reliability.
The Governor said that Borno State is fully ready to partner with NASENI in achieving its mandate of nurturing an appropriate and dynamic science and engineering infrastructural base.
The Governor promised NASENI a conducive environment for the immediate construction of the development institutes in the State.
