2023 AFRD: President Buhari, Defence Minister honour fallen heroes

The Minister of Defence Major General Bashir Magashi (rtd) joined the Commander-in- Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari to lay a wreath at the National Arcade Abuja, as the nation marks the 2023 Armed Force and Remembrance Day Celebration.

The annual ceremony climaxed to a solemn finale and a highly regimental order of event to honour the fallen heroes who paid the supreme price in the line of duty in serving the nation.

The Defence Minister who came under the parade of the Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces performed the symbolic laying of the wreath at the feet of the unknown Soldier alongside his counterpart,  the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Musa Bello.

He thereafter joined the Vice President Yemi Osibajo, Senate President, Dr Ahmad Lawan and the Speaker House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila to accompany the President to sign the register and release the pigeons.

 

 

In A brief remark at the end of the parade, the Defence Minister, General Magashi, described the historic ceremony as symbolic and successful according to the Special Assistant to the Minister of Defence on Media and Publicity, Mohammed Abdulkadri.

The ceremony was also witnessed by Members of the Federal Executive Council, Members of the Diplomatic Community, top Government Functionaries, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Leo Irabor and all the Service Chiefs of Military and paramilitary agencies and Members of the Nigerian Legion.
