Drug enforcement Agency seizes Europe-bound illicit drugs in Lagos, Abuja 

Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA) has seized consignments of illicit drugs going to the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand and Cyprus at two major airports in the country.

The illicit drugs include cocaine, methamphetamine and its precursor chemical, ephedrine were intercepted at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, (MMIA), Lagos, and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja as well as some courier companies.

A press statement by the Director, Media and Advocacy of the Agency, Mr. Femi BabaFemi said at least three traders at the Trade Fair Complex in Ojo area of Lagos have been arrested in connection with the consignments.

He said, on Monday 13th February 2023, NDLEA intercepted a 29-year-old Apeh Kelvin Ogbonna while attempting to board Turkish airline flight TK0624 to Cyprus, with 4.5 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed in false bottoms of his travelling bag.

BabaFemi explained that, operatives of the agency seized over two million pills of tramadol and other pharmaceutical opioids during interdiction operations in some states in the past week.

The states are Adamawa, Kogi, Edo,Kano, Niger, Yobe and Kaduna.

Some suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures.

While reacting on the seizures and arrests of the past week, the Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, retired Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa commended the officers, men and women of the affected commands for their commitment and vigilance.

He urged them and their compatriots across the country to continue synergizing with other security forces towards ridding Nigeria of the menace of illicit drugs.
