The Biometric Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) machine has broken down in Ward 6, Unit 2, Igbeti, Olorunsogo Local Government Area of Oyo State, leaving voters stranded.
Voice of Nigeria reports that there wasn’t a clear explanation given by the Independent National Electoral Commission Officials on duty.
While one of the officers said it was due to network issues, another official said it was due to internet data shortage.
As at the time of filing this report, the support staff and official to help rectify the machine had not arrived the polling unit.
While reacting to the development, a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, who was voting at the unit, Kazeem Olayanju, said the failure of the machine was a normal thing to expect when innovations are introduced.
Olayanju who is representing Irepo/Olorunsogo State Constituency on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) appealed to the people to show understanding with the electoral umpire.
He expressed optimism that INEC would have envisaged such a development and would have made the right provisions available.
He commended the electoral umpire for the improvement in the processes and the voters for coming out en mass to cast their votes.
