The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has extended the presidential and national assembly elections to Sunday February 26, 2023 in Bakassi local government area of Cross River State, south-south Nigeria.
A statement signed by the Head of Department, Voters Education and Publicity, Anthonia Nwobi on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Gabriel Yomere indicated that the extension to Sunday was for areas where election did not hold on Saturday February 25th.
Nwobi further indicated, “the extension to Sunday February 26th was for the exercise to hold in polling units in Cross River State that election did not take place including polling units and wards in Bakassi local government area; Dayspring 1 and 2 as well as Qua Island.
“Voting in the affected areas will resume by 8am and end at noon. All stakeholders including members of political parties, Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), Observers, press, INEC staff and ad hoc personnel for the 2023 general elections should be guided.”
The statement added, “the commission re-assures all eligible voters of her resolution that no registered voter will be disenfranchised in the 2023 general election.”
