Election: INEC declares winner of Kwara Central Senatorial District
The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Mallam Saliu Mustapha of the All Progressives Congress, APC as the winner of the Kwara Central Senatorial District election held on Saturday.
Mustapha secured 109,823 votes to defeat the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, a former Minister of Sports who polled 69,202 votes.
The Collation/ Returning Officer for Kwara Central Senatorial District, Professor Salih Abubakar of the English Department , University of Ilorin made the declaration at the INEC Collation Center, Ilorin.
“That Mustapha Saliu of APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner,” Professor Abubakar declared to cheers from APC supporters.
“The fifty year old winner of the Senatorial election is the Founder, Saliu Mustapha Foundation, a businessman, Philantropist and the Turaki of Ilorin Emirate.”
He has been in the All Progressives Congress since 2013.
Mustapha had also contested for the National Championship of the APC but later ‘stepped down’ from the race which eventually led to the victory of the incumbent National Chairman of the party, Senator Adamu Abdullah.
