Sokoto: Muslim Forum Sues for Peaceful Gubernatorial, State Assembly Elections
Ismail Umar, Sokoto
The Forum of Muslim Solidarity in Sokoto has called on candidates, political leaders of the state to ensure peaceful conduct of gubernatorial and state assembly elections.
Chairman of the Forum, Professor Muhammad Maishanu, made the call at a press briefing in Sokoto State.
According to him, political leaders should remember that power belongs to Allah, the Almighty Alone.
” Allah gives it to whosoever he so wishes, when he so wills in order to test him whether he will do justice.
” Therefore, no amount of violence will make a person get what Allah the Exalted has not destined for him. Even if by destiny he requires the position… great sin and severe punishment that await any one who kills innocent lives,” he noted.
The forum, however, appealed to security agencies to act according to the law and to also remain apolitical while discharging their duties before, during and after the excercise.
“Police should ensure full restrictions of movement to prevent trouble makers gaining access to polling units on election day.
” Security should also ensure adequate presence of personel during the excercise.” Professor Maishanu added.
He stressed the need for Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials to be fair and work for the country not any political party.
