coach Asier Garitano has confirmed that the club have permitted Kenneth Omeruo to link up with the Nigeria squad for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against the Republic of Benin and Lesotho.

The former Chelsea star is now expected to travel to Lagos next week, after Saturday’s league match at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque.

Leganes releasing Omeruo to the Nigeria Football Federation is a show of magnanimity as European clubs can hold on to their players in the March window due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Furthermore, the Super Eagles star has just recovered from his physical problems and it’s not cast in stone that he will be involved in this weekend’s match versus CF Fuenlabrada as he resumed full training few days ago.

The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner missed Leganes last two matches in the second-tier against CD Castellón and Real Oviedo.

Omeruo has not made a single appearance for the Super Eagles in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers; he was a non-playing substitute against Benin and Lesotho and wasn’t in the squad vs Sierra Leone
