INEC moves sensitive materials to Enugu Local Government Areas

Ahead of the Governorship and State House of Assembly election in Enugu State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has moved election materials including the Bi-Modal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines to the local government area offices in the State.

 

Dr Chukwuemeka Chukwu, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Enugu State, on Thursday informed Journalists that 17 Council areas in the State had received the materials.

 

The REC noted that political party agents and observers were on ground having witnessed and supervised the distribution process till the last consignment of the sensitive materials loaded and trucked for Enugu South Local Government Area (LGA) bolted.

 

The distribution process was adjudged seamless, peaceful by party agents and observers present at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Enugu branch.

 

Speaking further, Dr.Chukwu told newsmen that from each of the INEC LGA, the sensitive materials would begin transition to the Registration Area Centres (RAC) on Friday.

 

“With the tight arrangement we have made on transport, which the process is ongoing smoothly as well as the firm agreement we had with the transport unions, I believe that election materials will arrive the polling units latest 7: 30a.m on March 18.

 

“As we have reiterated, INEC will be conducting a hitch-free Governorship and State Assembly polls as well as rescheduled Enugu East Senatorial Zone poll on March 18 in Enugu State.

 

“All hands are on deck in the commission and with our electoral stakeholders to conduct a peaceful, hitch-free, credible and fair polls come March 18,” he assured.

 

He revealed that replacement of incomplete sensitive materials had been put into consideration by the National Headquarters for a smooth process.
