The Rivers State Governor , Nyesom Wike has cast his vote in the Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections at ward 9, unit 7 in Rumuperikom LGA of the State.
Governor Wike commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for what he described as ‘a seamless process.’
The Governor who noted that the process did not take up to two minutes, said that “it was quite impressive.”
“From what I have seen, we have not had any much complaint, I can say they have done very well … they have improved more than what we had on the 25th of February,” Governor Wike stated.
Speaking on the low turnout of voters in the State, Governor Wike explained that “when the first election comes and goes, and people don’t get what they want, obviously they are discouraged, but for whatever it is, the number is still okay.”
The Governor expressed satisfaction with the peaceful nature of the election adding that “the security agencies are doing what they are supposed to do.”
Due to the problem associated with the BVAS machine, it took until about 2pm local time for the Governor to be accredited for the presidential election after the original set of BVAS machines brought to his polling units were replaced by INEC.
On that day his wife, Suzette could not vote because the BVAS machine could not accredit her for the exercise. She did not join her husband on Saturday to cast her vote.
Similarly, the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter, Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo also cast his vote at unit 40, ward 1 in Obio/Akpor LGA of the State.
Speaking with journalists after casting his vote, Ihunwo said it is his “civic responsibility to elect a youthful governor and an assembly member that will defend the interest of Rivers State youths.”
