The Former Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate in Kwara State, Waziri Gobir, has commended the smooth conduct of Saturday’s Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections in the State.

Gobir gave the commendation in Ilorin, the state capital, while speaking with Journalists after he exercised his voting rights at polling unit 001, Ode Waziri.

According to him, the conduct of the election has been smooth and peaceful, devoid of any ugly occurrence.

“The conduct has improved a lot compared with the presidential election. The signs are encouraging. We hope INEC will build on this,” he said.

Gobir also expressed worry about the low voter turnout, compared to the turnout in the February 25 Presidential election.

He attributed the low turnout to INEC’s inability to deploy technology to work perfectly during the presidential election.

“People may get discouraged with INEC’s inability to stick to their promise of transmitting results directly from the polling unit, which they failed to do.

“The electorate expects more from INEC, which did not happen. So most may decide to remain indoors,” he said.

He, however, urged the public to come out and exercise their voting rights.

The YPP gubernatorial candidate on Thursday, March 16, stepped down for the incumbent Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
