The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, as the winner of the Governorship Election in Gombe State.
The Returning Officer for Gombe State, Professor Maimuna Waziri, said Governor Yahaya was declared the winner having scored the highest votes of 342, 821.
Governor Yahaya who is retaining his seat for the next four years, is closely followed by the Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Mohammed Jibrin Barde, who scored 233, 131.
Professor Waziri, who is the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Gashua, Yobe State, said in all, “there was a total of 1, 575,794 registered voters, 618, 231 were accredited voters: 605, 355 were valid votes, while rejected votes were 11, 390 and 616, 745 total votes cast.”
Governor Yahaya won nine out of the 11 local government areas, while PDP’s Danbarde scored two out of the LGAs of Gombe state, which has 114 wards.
