The team defeated El Kanemi Warriors 1-0 to clinch third place match despite fluffing a penalty kick through Edward Miracle in the second half.
The commissioner gave the commendation while welcoming the players in Akure on Sunday. He also thanked the governor of the state, Rotimi Akeredolu for his contribution and support toward the team.
“This is the reward of hard work and dedication to duty. Our youngsters have never had it so good at this level and so we are proud of them. If Pele could start his professional career before age 16, then I see the light at the end of the tunnel for them.
“I thank Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for creating an enabling environment for sports, especially football in Ondo State, part of the results we witnessed in the NPFL/LaLiga U15 tournament.”
He added his expectation is “that some of these rookies would in the near future be drafted into our team in the Nigeria Premier Football League just as it was done in the days of Ondo State Football Development Agency.”
